About the embroidery

The floral work is stitched by hand rather than machine. That produces slight variation in stitch density and thread tension across the surface, giving the pattern depth and movement that a printed fabric cannot replicate. Small differences between individual chairs are inherent to the technique.

On the charcoal ground the contrast is sharper than on a mid-tone base — the reds, pinks and greens of the embroidery sit forward rather than sinking in. It makes the chair feel graphic rather than soft, which is worth knowing if you were expecting something muted.

How to style it

The grey base does a lot of work here. Because charcoal reads as a neutral, this chair drops into far more schemes than a strongly coloured embroidered piece would — it will sit against white, cream, sage, navy or clay walls without argument, and the embroidery supplies the colour the room might be missing.

Keep everything else plain. Pair with solid cushions in one of the embroidery colours rather than adding a second pattern. Works in a sitting room, bedroom, dressing room, or on a wide landing.

Delivery and care

Vacuum on a low setting with a brush attachment, taking care around the embroidered areas — avoid catching the threads. Blot spills immediately rather than rubbing. Do not machine wash. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight, which will fade both the velvet and the embroidery threads. Dark velvets show lint more readily, so keep a lint brush to hand.
