Why closed storage
Open shelving photographs better; closed storage lives better. What actually collects beside a bed — chargers, medication, tissues, an unfinished book, reading glasses — is not decorative, and two doors means none of it is on display. Getting the height right
At 57.6cm the Lumen is designed to sit level with a standard UK double bed, which typically has a surface height between 55cm and 65cm from the floor. That is where a bedside surface works best — comfortable to reach across without lifting your arm.
Measure floor to the top of your mattress rather than the bed frame, and allow at least 55cm of clear width beside the bed.
Materials and construction
18mm E1-standard board from FSC-certified supply, made by the manufacturer directly. All edges carry PVC edge banding — worth having on any piece and essential on white, where a bare board edge shows as a dark line the moment it takes a knock. The hinge system is a durable one rather than the light-duty type usually fitted at this price, which is the component that fails first on an under-specified two-door cabinet.
