The Lina is a storage box that happens to work as a bedside table. An MDF frame is upholstered in teddy fabric — a dense, curly pile with real depth to it — and set on tapered wooden legs. Lift the top and the whole interior opens up, which is a far better use of a 45 cm cube than a single shallow drawer.

Why brown

Brown is the shade in this range that reads least like upholstery and most like furniture. In a warm light the pile picks up a caramel tone, which puts it closer to leather or suede than to fabric, and makes it the easiest of the seven to place next to oak, walnut or pine you already own. If a pale upholstered piece feels too precious for the room you have in mind, this is the one to look at.

Living with it

At 45 cm high it sits level with most divan and upholstered bed frames, so nothing has to be reached up to. The closed top means the clutter goes inside rather than on show, and the fabric takes the edge off a room that is otherwise all hard surfaces — useful in a rented flat where you cannot change the flooring or the walls.
