Check the height before you order

45cm is low for a bedside piece. UK beds typically put the mattress top between 55cm and 65cm off the floor, so expect this to sit below the level of your mattress rather than flush with it.

Measure floor to mattress top, not floor to bed frame. A gap of 10cm is barely noticeable; 20cm means reaching down every time.

The practical case for a dark one

Black is the sensible choice if the piece will see real traffic — a rented room, a shared house, a bedside that doubles as a seat when someone perches on it to put shoes on. Marks and shadows that would show plainly on white or beige simply do not register on a dark pile.
