Check the height before you order

At 45cm this is a low piece. Most UK beds put the top of the mattress somewhere between 55cm and 65cm off the floor, which means the Lina will typically sit below mattress level rather than level with it.

Measure from your floor to the top of your mattress, not to the bed frame. If the gap is more than about 15cm you will be reaching down for your glass of water, which some people mind and some do not.

What the storage is for

A lift-up box holds a different kind of thing than a drawer does. It swallows spare bedding, a folded throw, seasonal clothes or anything bulky and soft, but it is awkward for small items you need nightly, since the lid has to come off whatever is standing on top.

The practical approach is to treat the surface as your bedside and the inside as deep storage you open once a week rather than twice a night.

Living with fabric furniture

Teddy fabric has a raised pile that holds dust more than a wipe-clean surface, so it wants an occasional pass with a soft brush or an upholstery vacuum attachment. In return it never chips at the edges the way board furniture does, and it feels warm rather than cold under your hand.
