The light pine effect is a pale, warm wood tone rather than an orange one — closer to a light oak than the yellow pine of the 1990s, which is what makes it work in contemporary rooms.

Kommen or Rose?

Identical external size, different internal layout. The Kommen gives a 28.6cm open lower shelf and a 32.2cm cupboard; the Rose gives a 42cm cupboard and shallower shelves.

Choose the Kommen if you stack books, magazines or a small basket in the open. Choose the Rose if you want taller things out of sight. Worth noting the Kommen's upper shelf is a genuinely shallow 11.5cm — fine for a phone or paperbacks laid flat, not for hardbacks standing up.

Getting the height right

A standard UK divan or bed frame with mattress sits between 55cm and 65cm from the floor, so at 57.6cm this lands comfortably inside that range. Measure floor to the top of your mattress rather than the bed frame, and allow at least 55cm of clear width beside the bed.

Materials and construction

18mm E1-standard board from FSC-certified supply. That gauge is meaningfully heavier than the 15mm or 16mm used in most budget flat-pack, and it shows in how the carcass holds square over time. All edges carry PVC edge banding.

How to style it

Light wood is the most forgiving bedroom finish because it reads as a natural rather than a colour. It sits happily with white, cream, sage, clay and most greys, pairs particularly well with linen bedding and brass or black metal lighting, and will sit alongside existing oak or pine furniture without needing to match exactly.
