The coffee table anchors a living room. It sets the distance between seats, holds everything in daily use, and is usually the first surface a guest puts a drink on.

Choosing a coffee table

Aim for a table roughly two thirds the length of your sofa, with the top sitting level with or slightly below the seat cushions. Leave around 40-45cm between the sofa edge and the table so people can pass comfortably. Round and curved shapes are safer in homes with young children and work better in tighter rooms.
