About the mottled velvet

This is the one fabric in the Cromarty range that is deliberately uneven. The mottling is built into the finish, so tone shifts across the chair rather than sitting flat — closer to a well-worn antique than a bolt of new cloth. It means no two chairs are quite identical, and it means the surface hides the marks and directional shading that show more obviously on a plain velvet.

Worth knowing before you order: teal is the hardest colour to photograph accurately. Depending on your screen it may read bluer or greener than it appears in daylight, where it generally sits closer to a deep sea green than a bright blue. If exact colour matching matters, ask us for a fabric sample first.

How to style it

Teal is a room-maker. It sits beautifully against warm neutrals, terracotta, and unpainted wood, and goes properly rich beside mustard, rust or brass. In a pale room it becomes the entire focus; in a dark green or navy room it reads as a tonal layer rather than a contrast.

The mottled finish makes it more forgiving than a flat teal would be — it works in rooms with pattern already in play, where a solid block of colour might fight. At 65cm across it suits a bedroom, a snug, a study, or a reading corner.

Delivery and care

Vacuum regularly on a low setting with a brush attachment, working with the pile rather than against it. Blot spills immediately rather than rubbing. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight — velvet fades faster than most upholstery. Brush the pile back into alignment after heavy use.
